In Class 6G we learnt about the dangers of smoking. We thought about the damage that it might do to people’s bodies. Shockingly we found out that there are over 4000 chemicals in cigarettes including rat poison and acetone. Mrs Glanville demonstrated how the smoke from a cigarette collects in a person’s lungs. A lit cigarette was placed into a 2 litre bottle which had been filled to three quarters full with water. There was a hole in the bottom of the bottle and as the water drained out the smoke produced by the cigarette was drawn into the bottle. When the cigarette had been burnt, it was removed and replaced with a napkin. The smoke was forced back out of the bottle through the paper napkin leaving a brown staining which was tar.
