Science - turning cream into butter

The children in Year 3 and 4 had a great time learning about states of matter (solids, liquids and gases).  Their favourite investigation was turning cream into a butter.  The process involved vigorous shaking by all the children.  They were amazed how the cream went all "fluffy" to sounding "sloppy, swishy but lumpy" when it turn into solid butter.  We drained the remaining liquid from the butter, allowed it to fully harden in the fridge then enjoyed trying our freshly made butter on bread the next day.
