There’s a real buzz of excitement and purpose running through our School Council right now, as children take the lead in making a positive difference to our school and local community. Turning ideas into action, the children wrote to the PSA to request litter pickers and thanks to successful funding, they were soon out in the community ready to get started!
Armed with their new equipment, the School Council headed out to Roselands field and nearby local streets, tackling litter head-on and showing fantastic teamwork along the way. From bottles, cans and crisp packets to unexpected finds like plastic matting and even a doormat blown into a hedge after stormy weather. No piece of litter was too small (or too strange!) for this determined group.
But their work didn’t stop there. The children also noticed an ongoing issue with dog fouling, despite their earlier poster campaign promoting responsible behaviour. Undeterred, they proudly displayed their eye-catching posters along the school fence to remind dog walkers to clean up after their pets. To support this, the Trust has installed a handy poo bag dispenser on the public footpath making it easier than ever for everyone to do their bit.
This project is a brilliant example of what our School Council is all about: teamwork, leadership and making a real impact. The children have shown that when we work together, even small actions can create big change. Their enthusiasm and commitment are truly inspiring and prove that everyone has a part to play in keeping our community clean, safe and enjoyable for all.
