Our fantastic Senior School Council rolled up their sleeves and got their hands muddy to help plant our very own Miyawaki Forest right here on the school grounds. This “tiny but powerful” woodland may only be about the size of a tennis court, but don’t let its size fool you – it’s making a huge difference!
Even more exciting, our forest is part of the Devon Resilience Innovation Project, funded by Defra and the Environment Agency, helping schools like ours take real action for the environment.
But that’s not all. Our brilliant Senior School Council members also planned and delivered a whole-school assembly, sharing their knowledge about the Miyawaki Forest and explaining the many ways it helps our planet and supports local wildlife. Their passion and teamwork truly inspired everyone in the school!

🌍 Why is our mini forest so special?
Planted with a mix of native trees from English Oaks to Crab Apples, these trees are growing closely together, supporting each other and shooting up to 10 times faster than a typical forest!
One of our council members, Darcy, summed it up perfectly:
“It’s a tiny but powerful woodland that grows really fast and helps nature thrive.”
We are incredibly proud of our Senior School Council for not only helping to plant this amazing space, but also for educating the whole school about its importance.
A big “Thank You” goes to Torbay Council and the team at Swisco for helping us bring this project to life.
🌿 Watch this space—our forest (and our future!) is growing! 🌿
