Roselands is a member of the Riviera Education Trust which is the admissions authority responsible for the admissions policies and decisions on applications for admission. We have an admissions policy for each academic year. They are written to comply with the School Admissions Code and School Admissions Appeals Code. We take part in the co-ordinated admissions schemes of Devon County Council.
Come and visit us
If you are interested in your child attending our school, you are welcome to come in and visit us. You can arrange a visit on 01803 525375 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Mrs Cottee or Mrs O'Shea will be able to discuss admission with you.
Applying to come here
Once you decide you would like a place in Reception or at any other time after this, you must make a formal application. You can do this by applying to the Local Authority and not direct to the school.
For the Normal Round intake into school, children are offered places to start in Reception at the beginning of the September term after their fourth birthday. Children who are admitted to a vacancy at any time after this point are called 'In-Year' Admissions.
The Local Authority
Torbay Council publishes information about admissions and its own policies to support the admissions application and appeals process. This is at https://www.torbay.gov.uk/schools-and-learning/admissions/
Applications can be made online at https://www.torbay.gov.uk/schools-and-learning/admissions/primary-place-2020/
The appeals process is detailed at www.devon.gov.uk/school-appeals
For questions about your child joining the school or just about the admissions process in general, please don’t hesitate to contact the school direct or contact Torbay on 01803 208908 or by email to email@example.com
You can also contact the Devon School Admissions Service on 0345 155 1019 or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org
Our Admissions Policies
You can find our admissions policies below - we review the school policy annually and may make changes if we feel this would be in the best interests of the school and our community.
Each academic year has its own policy document, with details about how to apply for a place in school from the start of Reception through to Year 6.
School admissions policy 2021-22
This is our determined policy. If you have any comments regarding the policy, you can contact us at the school or email@example.com.
Objections can be made up to 15 May 2020 to the Office of the Schools' Adjudicator.
Consultation on our Admissions policy for 2022-23
Below you will see a link to our determined admissions policy for 2022-23. We were consulting on this between 1 November 2020 and 8 January 2021 and invite any parent, or other person with an interest in our admission arrangements, to read the policy and make any comments you wish. You will see where there are changes, the text is in red – either something we propose to add or, if it has a line through it, something we propose to remove.
One of the proposals is to add children who have been adopted from state care outside of England to our oversubscription criterion 1. This is in anticipation that the Department for Education will require this change for all schools as it has just consulted on changes to the School Admissions Code. It is possible that the Department’s timescales may mean that the Code is not amended before the end of February, when we have to formally set our policy. If that is the case, we may have to determine our policy without that change and then alter it later in spring or summer. We are bringing it to your attention though as a change in policy that we expect to have to introduce.
Other than changes in red and dates moving forward a year, the way our policy will work is the same as in the previous year, 2021-22 which you can also see below.
If you have any comments, you can make them to Devon County Council which is co-ordinating the consultation. Further information is at www.devon.gov.uk/admissionarrangements. You will be able to view the proposed policies for all state-funded schools in Devon and the Local Authorities policies there too.
The consultation ends on 8 January and all policies must be determined by 28 February and published in the same places by 15 March 2021.
