Science Week: Years 3 & 4 - Micro Organisms

As part of science week, Year 3/4 children worked in mixed classes and learnt about micro organisms.  They found out that germs are every where and that they are easily breathed in.  Luckily, our noses are lined with mucus...otherwise known as snot!  The learnt all about the usefulness of mucus, its properties and why it’s best lest in our noses! Then they made some!
Conditions for microbial reproduction were explored through investigating decomposing organic matter. The children were horrified to learn that all dead organisms are broken down by decomposers in order to return the nutrients to the soil.
Science investigations were also carried out into the key factors that influence yeast growth.
